Biography

Mary L. Kelly, 86, of the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. She was born November 7, 1923 in Dunmore a daughter of the late Michael and Cecilia Curley Grant.

A graduate of Coughlin High School she was formerly employed for the Wilkes-Barre School District and Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Mrs. Kelly was a devout catholic and a member of St. Dominic’s Church. She also belonged to the Ancient Order of Hibernian’s, Miners Mills Senior Citizens. Mary loved her weekend rides with her girls, Kelly Sharon and Maureen especially her trip to Ireland and recent trip to Notre Dame. She was a care giver to anyone in need.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick; sisters, Alice Ostrander, Catherine McGraw, Rita Tershak, Eleanor Diggs; brother, Bill Grant. The family would like to thank the nursing staff of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital and especially Dr. Tina Mirza for the excellent care provided to Mary.

Surviving are her children, Patrick Kelly Jr. and his wife, Kyoko, Shavertown, Thomas Kelly and his wife, Patricia, Ashley, Gerald Kelly and his wife, Marion, Virginia Beach, VA, Sharon Yale and her husband, Bob, Wilkes-Barre, Maureen Roughsedge and her husband, Billy, Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren, Kathy, Kim, Karen, Kristine, Richard, Robert, Trisha, David, Patrick, Michael, and Kelly; 20 great grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Friday at 9:30 from E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 in St. Dominic’s Church. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call Thursday from 4-8 p.m.
