Life Legacy


Robert J. Watkins, 66, of the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Wednesday at his home surrounded by his loving family.


He was born January 13, 1943 in Wilkes-Barre, a son of the late John and Catherine Shovlin Watkins. A 1960 graduate of Coughlin High School he also graduated from Luzerne County Community College and Wilkes College.


He was employed by the former International Color Printing Company and later for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as a roadway programs coordinator for the Luzerne County Maintenance District.


Mr. Watkins was the organist and choir director for Sacred Heart Church, Plains, and also was the organist for St. Dominic's Church, Wilkes-Barre. A member of the local musicians union he shared his genuine love of music touching many people's hearts and making them smile no matter what the occasion.


He was preceded in death by his first wife, Katie Simons Watkins, and infant son, Kevin Watkins.


Surviving are his beloved wife, Beverly Kostik Watkins; sons, Brian P. Watkins, Wilkes-Barre, and Michael R. Watkins; step sons, Michael Pagliarini and his wife, Pam, Boston; David Pagliarini and his wife, Carrie, and their son, Marco, Madison, Wisconsin, Anthony Pagliarini, Rome, Italy and his fiancé, Katie Cavadini; cousin, Rose Marie Conlon Hanks, and her husband, William.


The funeral will be held Saturday at 9:00 from the E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in St. Dominic's Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
