John Francis Kogoy, 75, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away September 10, 2023, at Geisinger Medical Center, Wilkes Barre.
Born on February 19, 1948, in Wilkes Barre, he was the son of the late John Francis Kogoy and Grace (Thomas) Kogoy. John worked for the City of Wilkes-Barre as a mechanic from the time of high school until the time of his retirement.
John is survived by his beloved wife Diane (Vienchkowski) of 51 years. His twin sister, Joan Oley, of Wilkes Barre and brother Gary (Tina) Kogoy of “The Cabin” in Monroe County and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
John had the personality and natural charisma to make friends no matter the situation, and his laugh was infectious to everyone around him.
His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Especially, his nephew Gerard LaFontaine, his wife Holly and their children Kylee and Dominik. He loved going hunting at “The Cabin”, making sure everyone on Jay Street’s grass was cut and working on lawn mowers and snow blowers in his treasured garage.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard Allen, and Wayne Thomas Kogoy.
John was a truly great man whose impact will be forever felt by his family, that loves him dearly. He was a selfless man whose passing left an unfillable gap in the hearts of his loved ones.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. from E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. Services will be conducted by Rev. K. Gene Carroll. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Plains. Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8 p.m.
