Micahel A. Piccarreta Jr.

Michael A. Piccarreta Jr., 86, of Philadelphia, passed away August 22, 2023 at Complete Care at Berkshire, Douglasville, PA.

Mike was born August 24, 1936 in Wilkes-Barre, PA the son of the late Michael A. Piccarreta and Concetta Piccarreta.  He attended Wilkes-Barre Schools and graduated from GAR High School in 1954.  Following High School Mike was employed at Planter’s Peanuts while attending evening classes at Wilkes University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work in 1962.  He then went on to receive his master’s degree in social work from the University of Pennsylvania in 1968.

Mike was employed through his entire career as a social worker in Philadelphia and the New Jersey Annex for 36 years and spend the last 26 years of his career as supervisor of inpatient social work on the psychiatric unit for Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia.

Mike was a past member of the National Association of Social Workers, was a certified clinical social worker and diplomat of social work.

Mike is survived by sisters Concetta M. Piccarreta and Louise Laine both of Wilkes-Barre and brother Peter Piccarreta (Anita) of Douglasville, PA. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by brothers Sam, Tally, Michael, John and Richard Piccarreta; sisters Mae Piccarreta; Rose Ondish and Josephine Ashby.

A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family with arrangements by E. Blake Collins Funeral Home.
